Kerala Tailoring Workers' Welfare Fund Board
Kerala Tailoring Workers' Welfare Fund Board has been constituted for the welfare of registered tailoring workers', in the year 14.06.1994 as per the Government Gazette Notification No: 10784/Leg/C3/92/Law. A tailoring worker once registered as a member under this board he/she should remit yearly Rs. 600/- (Rs. 50/- per month) as subscription to the board. This board has been giving retirement benefits to registered tailoring workers' to them once they attain the age of sixty years; along with board's contribution clubbed with the whole contribution remitted by the member. Also, each retired member is entitled for the benefit of Rs. 1600/- per month as pension.
1906
the Kerala Artisans and Skilled Workers' (Death cum Retirement) Scheme was introduced by a government order on November 1, 1985, with retrospective effect from October 1906.
1991
This scheme was initially designed for tailors but was later extended to include other skilled manual laborers such as laundry workers', barbers, tree climbers, carpenters, goldsmiths, and blacksmiths, among others.The scheme continued until 1991
1994
Due to strong advocacy by various trade unions, the Kerala Legislative Assembly passed the Kerala Tailoring Workers' Welfare Fund Bill, 1992, which was introduced in the assembly on February 8, 1994, by the then Minister of Labor, N. Ramakrishnan, and passed on February 17, 1994.The bill, which was passed by the Legislative Assembly, received the Governor's approval on June 14, 1994, and the Kerala Tailoring Workers' Welfare Fund Act, 1994, came into effect.
1995
The government issued a notification setting the act’s effective date as June 1, 1995. To implement the provisions of the act, a welfare fund board was established, and necessary procedures, including collection of contributions and application for benefits, were formulated. The Kerala Tailoring Workers' Welfare Fund Scheme officially came into force on October 16, 1995. Later, through a government notification on December 18, 1995, a 14-member board was constituted, comprising six worker representatives, four employer representatives, and four government representatives. K.C. Nanu was appointed as the Chairman, and S. Muraleedharan Nair, Deputy Labor Commissioner, was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer.
1996
The board's first meeting was held on February 6, 1996, in the presence of the then Minister of Labor, Aryadan Muhammad.
